Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Application Developer will execute the development of business-critical applications from concept to deployment by gathering and evaluating requirements, architecting the solution, building the code, and testing to meet or exceed quality standards using established process methodologies and tools. The Developer will work as a member of a team or in an application support role. Collaborate with GIS Manager and end-users to define and document requirements using established processes and tools given scope constraints. Translate requirements to design, architect and document systems, and write code that is stable, reusable, scalable and simple. Proactively monitor, maintain and enhance existing systems to increase functionality and optimized performance. Solve business needs with initiative, sound judgment, a strong technical mind, and attention to detail.
• Designs, evaluates and tests new web/database applications using Microsoft SQL Server
• Responsible for database server administration and associated daily administrative tasks of all non-GIS databases
• Microsoft Access, ADO.Net, ASP.Net and Visual Studio
• Meets with internal and external clients to identify database requirements and develop appropriate solutions
• Using available Tribal resources, conducts solution testing to ensure that applications and databases integrate smoothly into the current operational environment
• Performs analysis of existing processes and procedures and makes recommendations when changes are required
• Assist the GIS/IT departments with maintaining/managing the IIS servers in the web development and production environment as requested
• Recommends system enhancements to maximize application efficiency
• Works with appropriate departmental resources to ensure that all application solutions are integrated into the Tribe’s standards and that all applications are tested to ensure complete compatibility with the Tribe’s hardware, software, and peripherals
• Performs user support when a user is having a problem with an application or performance;
• Responds to after-hours application problems
• Notifies the Tribe’s IT manager in the event of an application outage, virus, or major system failure that could affect users
• Other duties and projects as assigned
Desired Qualifications
• MCSA:SQL Server or MCSE: Data Platform certification a plus, desired qualification
Minimum Qualifications
• Job experience or course works in relational database management systems (RDMS)
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005—2014, Microsoft Access 2007—2016, and Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, Sybase, MySQL 5.0, PostreSQL 3 and Oracle 10G
• Experience and knowledge with networking and client server systems
• Visual Studio experience
• Java Script and other web-based database interface programming
• Ability to recommend, plan and implement web and other application solutions
• Exemplary problem-solving skills; able to identify problems and implement corrective processes
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• A skilled communicator; able to synthesize and deliver complex information to diverse audiences
