I've heard a few questions about projections over the past few months and I wanted ot start a discussion to see what others may use and why? I work for our Historic Preservation Department and focus on Cultural Resource data mostly, because we have an area of historic interest streatching 9 states in the Southeastern US we use "USA Contiguous Albers Equal Area Conic USGS". When I need to put data on ArcGIS Online I usually project it in "WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxillary sphere). I have heard a few people are changing thier standard to the Web Mercator projection. I was wondering why this may be the case?

I am or was debating on which projection was going to be better in the long run and after asking around it seems the USA Contiguous Equal Area Conic USGS was the one to go with for the stretch across the southeast NAD83 and if I ever get to the point of ArcOnline you're right about the Web Mercator ( Thanks Garet)
