I am trying to figure out how to load a layer/Shapefile to my garmin nuvi 2797. The Oregon models can read the .img from an SD card but the newer Nuvi are not reading them. Please Help!!

I had problems loading shapefiles directly to my Trimble. The solution was to create a new folder on my desktop and use it as a junction between ArcMap and the Trimble. As an example, I would prepare my data in ArcMap, use the ArcPad data manager to "Get Data for ArcPad." But instead of sending the data directly to the Trimble, I would send it to the junction folder on the desktop. From there, I would click and drag the data to the Trimble.

There is no explanation from ArcGIS as to why I can't send the data directly to the Trimble, but this method works for my situation.

What file format are you dragging to the Trimble from the junction folder?

ArcGIS creates several file formats. These include the shapefile, projection, database and XML. I've attached a screen shot of the files that I create in ArcMap, send to the junction folder, and then drag to the Trimble. This example is a for a wetlands assessment project we're working on here at Elk Valley.

Have you had any luck with a solution? Are you trying to import layers to a Trimble or Garmin? It looks like the model you listed is a Garmin unit.

Hello everyone, I know this is off subject but, I on the other hand would like to know how to get shapefile data put into the Trimble GeoXT to use out in the field at locating points in heavily forested areas.
